From the article:

A young reporter asked Hewitt in the postgame if he considered using somebody other than D’Andre Bell on inbounds plays late in the game, considering Bell was struggling. It was a good question. But Hewitt flipped. “He’s a fifth-year senior,” he said. “Do you want me to put a freshman in there? Do you think that’s the answer? Then it would be a second guess the other way. ‘Why does he have a freshman in there?’ That’s a straight second-guess.”

Excuse me, Dr. Naismith.

I love this quote -

“I pointed out in the [Duke] game, that kid [Kyle] Singler played with a bad wrist. He scored 30 points with a bad wrist. That took a level of toughness that quite honestly we haven’t seen around here in a little while. We have a lot of calls for, ‘I need more touches. I need more minutes.’

Sounds like a bunch of NBAers - which is why I don't watch pro basketball btw - exactly the type of kid being recruited by Hewitt.  The concept of this being a team game is lost on a whole generation of street-ballers who's prime objective is to get on SportsCenter every night.

The same kind of kid who gets their a$$ thrashed by Singler who's playing injured.

Maybe they should worry more about shooting free throws and winning than who's getting their 'minutes'.

After reading the article, the first word I thought of was

DUH!!!!!!!!

yes, the players played poorly but who recruited them and coaches them in good habits and is there at the games to direct? PH PH PH

THREE McD All-Americans and we hold on at end at home vs ncSt!
nothing unusual - BAD TOs/asst ratio and FT% ----but we also gave up 21, yes 21 Off rebs to State, talk about being out of position and no effort

The atmosphere at the Thriller Dome was electric. Especially 8 minutes into the game when it was 6-4. Whoo hoo!!
;)

A lot of heads were shaking on the way out. It felt like a loss.

It felt the same way watching on television also.  I hate to admit this, but I continued watching just to see how we were going to LOSE the game.  I think I'd have felt better if that had happened.  That's how bad it has gotten.

I have a feeling we are either going to "figure things out" or fall flat on our face.

I was furious with the late game melt-down yesterday and my opinion of Paul Hewitt is well documented. BUT....I loved what I saw from Hewitt after the game. He finally showed us that he's pissed. That's a step in the right direction.

I must I was mildly perturbed during the last 4 minutes but mostly I just laughed out loud.  What a goat rope.

I was referring to the NBAers - one and done kids who are only concerned about their minutes.

Where has it said Favors is worried about his minutes?  Or is that just an assumption you made?

Blewitt is so over-rated......hell I've seen better coaching in the european leagues......he does not know anything about how to setup and run a offense.....and as far as the thriller dome.........lol.....it was louder at the local horse futurity in augusta, georgia at the james brown arena......the thrill is gone......turn out the lights.....

Have no idea who it is, but whoever it is, Hewitt recruited them!

To my knowledge, the complaining about 'minutes' is new this year, so I think it is safe to assume that the complaints are coming from at least one (or perhaps several) of the new kids.

Or someone who is playing less minutes than they were last year because of a new crop of freshman.  I have a hard time seeing it be a freshman considering how much they play

I was happy he showed his frustrations and didn't give the same crap coach speak that fans are fed up hearing/reading.

The stuff about letting the ball bounce, no lob passes on inbounds plays, etc. that he said he has been preaching for years - he is either completely full of **** or the guys just don't listen. I, for one, believe it's the latter. He sounded sincere and exasperated. I mean, Bell is a 5th year senior. What the hell was he thinking making those horrible passes and failing to run the baseline effectively?

But it is Hewitt's responsibility to get through the team. He said he has a suggestion box and some people laughed, but it's not funny. The leader of the program needs to get his point across to the players. If he cannot, that is squarely on the coach.

After 10 years, he has had enough time to get his point across. Why is it that GT fans put up with this crap? (Me included in that--the UGA loss didn't even do it for me, it was the NCSU win that finally woke me up. We will rarely, if ever, be better than this with PH, and this isn't good enough.)

I know, and I agree with you. I said, regardless, it is his job to get things across to the players. Like you said, he's had plenty of time to tweak/adjust his approach if he finds the words aren't getting through. I totally agree.

Totally agree as well Disgusted. I'm just saying that I'm glad he's pissed and is finally calling out his players. That's something I haven't seen from him EVER. Believe me, my opinion of CPH is well documented on this board. I am not in favor of Hewitt usually.

I started doing something last season that I'd never have considered before - betting against GT in hoops.  As Tony Soprano might say, "it's not personal, it's business".  Some of the easiest money ever and this year has been just as good.  If I can only bankroll $7M, then I'll be able to solve our problem.
