More SEC signees from Georgia than any other state, by far MrSEC.com has done some numbers-crunching that quantifies this state’s status as a football recruiting hotbed. The website counted 65 recruits from Georgia who signed with SEC schools last week, including the 14 Georgians among UGA’s 19 signees. Every SEC school except Mississippi State signed players from Georgia. No other state came close in terms of the number of players signing with SEC schools. The next largest number was from the state of Florida: 46. Then 37 from Mississippi and 36 from Alabama. In all, SEC schools signed 305 players from 23 different states, MrSEC calculated, with 21.3 percent of the league’s total signees coming from Georgia. UGA signed players from only three states: Georgia (14), Florida (4) and South Carolina (1). Go here for much more data on the topic. Interesting stuff. Ol' rexy seems to think we have the fertile hunting grounds of Georgia all to ourselves and the cesspool. Last edited on Tue Feb 9th, 2010 02:53 am by dressedcheeseside |

Them only accounting for SEC recruits is what makes Georgia look better than Florida in this count. If you take the "SEC level" recruits that went to just FSU and Miami, I'm not so sure Florida wouldn't win this one.

Why would I major in Mgmt. or Econ at GT when I can go to Texas, USCw, or Florida and major in the same thing (it is not like GT's Mgmt or Econ Majors are any better than those-3 above) and have more HOT WOMEN to choose from? The Reality is, is that most Elite CFB Players DO NOT want to major in Engineering (so in reality GT has no real advantage Academically for Recruits), so for purposes of Recruiting then GT's "Academics" should be compared using our Mgmt. & Econ. majors vs. other schools, and since that GAP is NOT that big (in eliteness) for Mgmt & Econ, then GT has no advantage academically for the "typical" (non Darryl Richard) CFB Player. We COULD have it all to ourselves & UGAy, but GT does everything in the most UNINTELLIGENT MANNER that they can find, while still beating their chests about GT being "Academically Elite". What a friggin' school!

From a football's perspective I couldn't agree with you more. From a School's perspective I completely disagree with you. GT isn't a football organization in the NFL. Its a SCHOOL! In schools, ACADEMICS come first. So, seeing how GT is a school first, football program 2nd(maybe 3rd? or 4th?), I don't see anything dumb about it.

Wrecks is totally right bc alot of the kids that go USC,FL,Texas, and UGA they have to wait years for playing time. When they could come to GT and start right away

South FL alone had 24-4 star recruits this year. To say GA has surpassed FL is wrong. There are 18 mill in FL and 9 mill in GA.

Its the SEC bias in the article that assumes if they're not going to the SEC, they suck. Buuuuuuuuuuuut, on the same token, you then must count all the SEC caliber recruits from Georgia going to the ACC and other conferences. I wonder if a study has been done showing the total number of BCS signees from each state? I still think Fla would be ahead of Georgia.

I think the writer was trying to show that since the SEC is generally regarded as the Best CFB Conf., those with inside knowledge of CFB like HCs & Recruiting Coordinators come to Ga. to stock their CFB Programs, I don't think he was trying to do a Ga. vs. Fla. Comparison, but he was using the recruiting habits of SEC schools to show that Ga. is very highly regarded when it come to producing "Elite BCS Caliber CFB Talent". Ga. has been a solid #4 in numbers of D1-A players produced and a solid #4 in numbers of Ga. HS Players that make NFL rosters for about the last 10 years and they are inching closer to Florida that holds down the #3 spot on both lists.

This fact would still point the athletes seeking the "easy road" to the "factories." Don't kid yourself, most "elite BCS talent" want the path of least resistance to the NFL. double aside: how'd you like my excessive use of " "? This is true. They have to be fast to outrun the snakes and alligators to make it to age 18.Some even have to be faster than a speeding train or bullet.

I have only mentioned 3 additional majors for GT, and those 3 are Communications, Poli. Sci., and Sociology, and I mentioned those 3 for the express purpose of getting more good looking Females on campus so that GT can have Social Environment closer to a normal College Environment. My question for you is, WHY do you reply to me and use my name specifically when you know that I have never mentioned anything like College Studies or Leisure Studies? That sort of Message Board Etiquette makes you come across as a P-o-S Liar, and I don't have to tell you what P-o-S stands for. At least try to be ethical if you are going to attribute something to someone or give the appearance that you are attributing something to someone. I don't give a sh*t how you use what keys on your keyboard when you type what you want to type, I'm not writing friggin' ENGLISH TEXTBOOKS, I'm talking sports, and CFB at that, and folks like you "wonder WHY" GT can't pick up any Sidewalk Alums to give a crap about GT FB. I guess weasels like you worry more about SYNTAX than friggin' HONESTY!

Second, I never said you said to offer leisure studies or college studies, now did I. Maybe you should brush up on your RC skills? (that's reading comprehension) Thirdly, and most importantly, you completely missed my point. As you were so busy highlighting the part of my post you pissed your panties over, you missed the second part of that very same sentence. Any major GT offers will be hard. The english classes I took at GT were hard as I recall how much time it took to do all the reading and writing assignments for 3 measly hours of credit. Your precious "elite BCS caliber" athletes don't want "hard" when it comes to the classroom nomatter what name you give it. Like I said, they want the "path of least resistance" to the NFL.

BigB wrote: Them only accounting for SEC recruits is what makes Georgia look better than Florida in this count. MrSEC could have saved us a lot of time by just totaling up the # of BCS players signed from each state. Maybe even total them by rank to appease the folks that care about stars. Florida would still have more. (BTW, Miami and FSU signed a total of 29 kids from the state of Florida this year.) Its California, Texas, Florida (in no particular order), then the rest of the states, which, I believe, Georgia is at the top of. Last edited on Tue Feb 9th, 2010 03:09 pm by Architorture |

Um, no. This is the Georgia Institute of Technology, not the Georgia Institute of Football Recruiting, or the Georgia Institute of Easy Education. The priorities of the Institute are (in this order): research, research, research, academics, football. And, I'm pretty sure you can major in Modern Language, Sociology, and Political Science. Link to majors. Try again Wrexie; a lack of majors is not the reason we don't have any girls. Though, we don't offer a BA. Even the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts gives BS degrees; they all incorporate science in some way. There's still Calc I, II, and III, and a lab requirement.
