+1, haven't missed Scout and their nebulous little inner circle hints and teasers at all. They sometimes act like children teasing each other in a school yard. Those guys don't know any more than folks here.

The most annoying thing I found about the Hive(free board) was their constant advertising for their premium board. Only they didn't do it above board, they posted a blurb from a story/interview(tease) and a link. When you clicked the link it directed you to a subscription page.

I did not post this until it was on Rivals front page for all who clicked on the site to see. It was not "confidential" insider information at that time.

CAM looks to be a good get, surprised Urban Myer or Mark Richt didn't try to snag him.  If Urban got him UF would have had the CUM/CAM combination......:D

Maybe if Richt's hiring practices weren't dictated by the ajc and the bulldung nation he would have gone after a candidate such as CAM. I like how much they're over-paying for their DC. Reminds me of chubby uga coeds at closing time--desperate. THWG!

There were some rumors going around UGA forums that he would be a good fit for their DC opening.  Obviously he did not get the job (I don't even know if he got an interview), but it was discussed among the fans.

Word was he was going to be announced on Signing Day but NC State came back with a counteroffer.  What it came down to in the end is that McCollum could stay at NC State with a mediocre program or come to Tech and compete for championships.  He has aspirations of at some point of furthering his career and the chances of that happening increase exponentially at a winner than they do at a loser.  Plus, talking to folks around the league who follow it closely, if O'Brien doesn't get something going he could be out after this year.

IMO McCollum is an excellent hire.

Cool, good to hear BB. This sounds good for GT, but honestly I have no idea.
And, nice to see O'Brien is getting exactly what he deserves after bolting a quality program like BC for the mediocre junk that is NCST.

I'm familiar w/Calico, Hicks, and Holliday.   They were all ballers @ MTSU.   Not too sure about any others

Agree. I never understood that move. In the south, NCST gets more respect than BC, but BC has a long history of being a qualilty program.  Of course Boston largely couldn't care less about BC aside from the typical band wagon factor that comes into play in highly successful years. I have to wonder if O'Brien had some personal problem with BC's administration.

I heard he was tired of recruiting and just wanted to go to a place where he could bring in the "can't spell cat" crowd......

The other highlight section is very impressive to me.

1. The success at Baylor as DC is amazing.  Where talking Baylor.

2. Sounds like he was very successful as a head coach.  But it does make me wonder why he stop being a head coach.  Was he fired?  He had one year he didn't coach right after being a head coach at MTSU and then went to NCST.  Certainly he didn't prefer to be out of a job for a year and then become the LB coach at NCST over being a head coach at MTSU.

3. Recruiting back ground is amazing.  Top 5 recruiter in USA according to Max.  Top class as head coach, brought in number 1 and 2 player at Baylor(Again I said Baylor).  Heck when was the last time Tech just had a 5 star?

4.  I will add that he has been in charge of NCST recruiting in Georgia the past 2 or 3 years.  What I noticed was NCST signed 4 to 5 players a year from GA during his time there, and before that they signed 0-2 players.  The average star he got from GA is not overwhelming (2.7 or so), but I would imagine recruiting in GA would be tough for NCST.

5. I will also add in that some had said UGA tried getting him a while back, but was unsuccessful.  It is great to hear the shift btw UGA and Tech.  We are looking more and more attractive.

He was upset with being jump over for bowls by NCST at BC.  The fan support was a large issue, and he felt he had more opprtunities at NCST

If you look at his year by year record at MTSU he started pretty good and then had some bad seasons (I think it was a few 4-8's strung together), and after he got fired worked as an NFL scout for the Titans. It can't hurt having another guy on staff with NFL connections.

In the article linked in this thread:

http://www.bbuzzoff.com/forum3/19023.html

CAM says " I have a long relationship with Paul Johnson, and I know a lot of guys on that staff. "

Does anyone know anything about the nature of his relationship with CPJ or any of the other coaching staff?
