Would have been Ole Miss.  Or MTSU would have been Ole Miss- not sure which one.  But not really our fault.  At least MTSU was a 10 win team and won their bowl game over a decent Southern Miss team.

They could beat us.  Shades of Gardner-Webb

I disagree.  Our OOC is lame, but every conference game will be tough for us + UGA

Weak as in easy? or weak as in bad home games?  Our road game schedule this year is brutal:

at Virginia Tech
at North Carolina
at Georgia
at Clemson
at Wake Forest
at Kansas

UGA schedule is weaker than ours this year.  Auburn and Tennessee is still down.  Florida lost a ton of starters, their DC, their new DC, Tebow, and a head coach taking time off.  Arkansas and South Carolina are probably two of their hardest games.

Sorted by a rough estimate of hardest game to easiest game:

Florida
Georgia Tech
Arkansas
at South Carolina
at Auburn
Tennessee
at Mississippi State
at Kentucky
Colorado
Vanderbilt
Idaho State

at Virginia Tech
Miami
at North Carolina
at Georgia
at Clemson
at Wake Forest
at Kansas
NC State
Duke
Virginia
Middle Tennessee
SC State

Quit kidding yourself.   The most difficult game for Georgia Tech to win this year as in most years will be against Georgia.  Yes, we have other tough games, but just harken back to this season past---beat VPI, could beat UGA.  At least acknowledge reality.  They still own us until we change things.:(

Given the away schedule and our loss of players, I concur.

I am going to start calling you Yukonwreck from now on, you miserable, pessimistic bastard.

If I were an Alum from some NE-USA College that didn't have any CFB and I were relocated to the Metro Atlanta Area and had been here for 3 years or so, and I was looking for a CFB Team to follow, "since that's what the Locals do", there's NO WAY IN HELL I'D EVER FOLLOW GT FB OR ATTEND A HOME GAME with that kind of garbage-ass Home Schedule.

GT is located in a Metro Area, the MSA of Atl. is roughly 5.5 Million people, you cannot play that kind of home schedule and expect Fans to follow GT FB, you gotta go out and get some big-time OOC Games in order for GT to "be talked about" on ESPN and in the local Media.

The year that GT had ND in town (2005?) that first Labor day Weekend GT FB was talked about the ENTIRE SUMMER on local Sports Talk Radio here in Atl., that's what GT needs EACH YEAR for about 5-7 years in order to really grow some sidewalk-Alums into becoming lifelong GT fans.

Opponents like SC State, MTSU, Elon, Jax St., Vandy et al only DAMAGE GT's reputation in the eye of Fence-Sitting Fans, and once they go to support other College Teams, GT will never get them OR THEIR CHILDREN.

And please don't mention Texas/Bama/Florida, GT is NOT any those schools and the people we have to Market CFB to are nothing like those Communities where those Schools have to Market their CFB to, so please cease with the, "look at who Florida plays" replies.

At some point GT has to stop talking about "Eliteness" and actually go out and execute some Eliteness in the Marketplace for CFB fans.
Really man? The thread was about the schedule.

Nobody said anything along the lines of: "Oh man, what an exciting home schedule! Bobby Dodd Stadium is gonna be packed this year!"

Also, people who come down here from the NE aren't just gonna pick up college football.
They might come by GT for a symphony performance at the Ferst center, but not for football.

Bringing up Florida is a whole 'nother point. They don't have to do any marketing because they're F-ing FLORIDA. It's easy to have tons of fans when you're in the National Title AND Heisman race every year.

Why do you want to pick up sidewalk fans so bad? Do you not feel comfortable with a small fanbase? Would it tickle your mustache to see every game be a sellout? I'm trying to understand where you're coming from, because honestly, I don't understand it. I'm not sure why the number of people in the stadium affects you so much. Do you need the approval of the rest of society to root for GT? If we had 10,000 more fans in the stadium for each home game, how does that affect you personally?
You're wrong, people that move to areas where CFB is big do adopt a College Team to support even if they don't attend Games, and those that do have children especially Sons will take their Son to a CFB game, you're flat out wrong about them going to the Symphony instead of a CFB Game.

In order to compete at the ELITE LEVELS of CFB it takes a lot of M-O-N-E-Y, do you think that Texas would have had 10 or 11 straight 10-win seasons if they had the Fanbase of a Baylor or Vandy?

You're subscribing to and supporting a "failing business model"; the most successful CFB Programs are those that have significant support from those that have no close connections to their School (Sidewalk Alums), to rely ONLY on Alums, parents, Relatives of those with GT Ties is a business model that will FAIL.

What is so amazing is that GT Alums/fans are always beating their chest about how smart they are and how elite their educations are, yet many such as you don't seem to understand how necessary it is to adopt a business model that has a chance at succeeding, for you to even ask why we need an extra 10K in the stands or why we need more Sidewalk Alums is laughable.

I don't think our schedule is really all that weak but is very unbalanced between road and home games.. seems most here think were playing a D1AA schedule which isn't the case by no means since their are 5 or so games we could easily lose or be in for a dog fight..

I  to like many here would like to see more OOC home games against O'State,USCw,Auburn,Tenn,Mich,Wisky or any top 20 teams but getting teams like that to play us is much easier said then done..

By the way I'm a life long sidewalk fan that didn't even try to get in GT and have had season tickets for many, many years and this up coming season will be no different..

So, you're saying we need more money? I think you're looking at just the big name schools and all of their green. What about programs like TCU, Iowa, and Boise State? I don't think you can argue those are bad programs; but, what's their financial situation like? I bet it's closer to ours than their SEC-equivalent.

While I may be "subscribing to a failing business model", I have no personal connection to the GTAA; their financial situation doesn't affect me. I have no vested interest in the 10,000 empty seats on game day. Their financial concerns are not the fans' concerns. You may think that makes me a despicable individual, but that's how I feel about it. And, wait a minute, didn't we just go to a BCS bowl? Isn't the payout for that like 17 million dollars?

Also, you're correlating successful programs with lots of sidewalk fans, but that doesn't make it causation. Are those programs successful because they have sidewalk fans, or did they become successful first, and pick up the sidewalk fans along the way? The correlation between large numbers of fans and BCS-level success doesn't mean there's a causal relationship between the two. You can't just point out the relationship and say, "Oh look, they have tons of fans, that's why they're hugely successful." What about a program like FSU? They've got tons of fans, as I recall, and no shortage of money. When was the last time they posted a 10-win season?

Alternatively, you can look at ourselves. We just put up an 11-win season, without any sidewalk fans to speak of. And I think the minimum requirement for PJ will be 10-win seasons from now on. But, I don't think you'd like to call that successful.

The sad thing is I STILL don't know who this guy is!  If not for seeing his ugly mug on the big screen in the stadium, I'd think he was just another d-bag with a guitar...maybe he is, I dunno...this guy is the perfect example of what is wrong with the ACC...playing second (or fifth) fiddle to the SEC and not realizing it.

I think UNC may be our toughest game next year. We get them third, which is not when we've been playing our best football the last two years. They get 2 weeks to prepare for us. AND, they have everybody back from a NASTY defense last year. That's gonna be a really, really hard game to win. I actually like our chances in the rest of them.

GT will never immerse itself into the fabric of the Metro Atlanta Area and therefore grow & cultivate more Sidewalk-Alums with a garbage-ass, crappy-ass Home Schedule like that.

I'm with Wrecks on this one:

I have new family with me, and season tickets. Previously, they were Michigan and Mizzou fans.

How am I supposed to get them excited about driving 3 hours to ATL to see SC State, Dook, NC State, or Middle Tennessee? That leaves Miami, and UVA as decent opponents. Imagine I'm not a ticket holder. Do you think I'm going to spring for a ticket to see any of these games? Heck No.

I'll likely spring for tickets in order to support the team and in order to get tickets for the Mutts so that I can see #3 son march with the Redcoats. But I'm seriously thinking of getting out of my Tech fund seats into the cheap seats. If I want good seats for Miami or UVA, then buy them separately. It will cost less. I can still get tickets to see the Mutts. I can't see paying Tech Fund prices to see SC State, Jax State,  Middle Tennessee, etc. with the commute expense to go along with it.

Two home games in November- BRRRR!

:beerchug
Michigan is no better, playing Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Bowling Green.   Mizzou has McNeese State, San Diego, and Miami of Ohio.   Lets face all schools are scheduling  these sort of teams to assure the bowl eligibility.

MTSU could very well change a lot of your minds about them.

But the facts of the matter are:

-MTSU is a damn quality team

-your average fan doesn't know that MTSU is a damn quality team

-it's a lose/lose as far as playing them; if we beat them then the reaction from your average fan is "we just beat MTSU...yay...who we got next week?" - if they beat us then the reaction from your average fan is "OH MY GOD FRIGGIN MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE?? ARE U SERIOUS?!!!?? DID THAT JUST HAPPEN??!!!!??? OH MY GOD!!!!"

-it worked out this way though, as far as I know we didn't have many other options at that point

MTSU got manhandled by Clemson, Troy, and Mississippi State last season, all teams that we were better than. So as long as the team plays smart, even with the losses on offense I think we shouldn't have too much trouble with them. But you're right they're are not a typical "scrub team"
