Texas Tech will be undefeated so they, naturally, will be ranked #1, they go.  But the #2 spot is very iffy.  UF is blowing out teams by 40 points and would be the SEC champion, if that matters.  Texas, already ranked above Florida, would have a higher SOS with more impressive wins than Florida.

What decides it for me is the comparison of losses.  Texas loses to the eventual #1 undefeated Texas Tech on the road, while Florida loses to bad Ole Miss at home.

Advantage Texas.  More argument fodder for a playoff?

First off a playoff is the best answer to all these type questions (Booyaa for Obama backing it).

That being said I go with the argument in 06 when Michiganders were clamoring for a rematch with OSU, you already played them. Too bad you couldn't come up with the win. Florida defeating Bama (very likely an undefeated team) is more meaningful than Texas winning the rest of the games. With the way Florida is playing on D and O, they could take either one of them. Course I'm a bit of a UF homer since they almost always beat UGAg.

No to playoffs.

Texas would run into the same problem UGA had last year. They didn't win their own division in their conference, but they should be in the BCS championship? What helps Texas I guess is that the team that beat them in their division was Texas Tech.

UF should go. As someone already said, TTech already beat Texas, who the hell wants to see that in the BCS champ game? I think most people would rather see T Tech's offense vs. an SEC defense. Not to mention, if UF wins out, then that means they beat the #1 team in the country: Bama. How do you give preference to a team that lost against the #1 team in the country (at that time)over a team that just beat the #1 team in the country?  especially if it is a convincing win, which I think it will be.

The Gators are playing the best football in the nation right now...well, them and T Tech.  That's your champ. game.

Yes to a playoff!  Even if its just a 4-team playoff.  That is the only true way to decide the best team in the country.  And you could still do this and keep the bowl system.  Imagine the matchups we would see!

Why does conference standing trump all?  All conferences are not equal, you know.  I say the best team with the best body of work deserves it regardless of conference standings.  The problem is defining "best team with best body of work."

I don't think it has to, it depends on how the season plays out.  For instance, lets pretend that TT lost two OOC games but still swept the Big-12.  You think Texas with its one loss to TT at the final second would be out of the BCS Championship?  Look at USC, they may lose the PAC-10 title but have an outside shot of going the the Ship.  (Very outside, but hey it could happen)

Last year was different.  I couldn't see LSU with 11-2 record not going because UGAg had a 10-2 record and was winning at the end of the season.  Had LSU lost?  shrug.

Nobody wants to see 2 teams that have already played each other, are in the same state and play the exact same schedule play each other for the BCS Championship when there is a very legitimate contender that plays in a notoriously tough conference that has won the MNC the last 2 years (see: strength of conference).

Texas will not be in the BCS champ game if this scenario plays out, if for no other reason than for drawing a bigger audience with a more popoular matchup: UF vs. TT.  I don't think we'll ever see 2 teams in the same conference play each other for the BCS champ...not with the current system.

This could all be resolved with a playoff ofcourse.

Florida is the best team in the nation. I don't care who they lost too. Anybody with any football knowledge could have watched Florida for the past month and known they would be favored over any team in the nation on a nuetral field. Heisman quarterback, the best set of playmakers in the nation, a very good defense, and maybe the best special teams in the country. And their coach is very good and has already won a national title. Florida has a better defense than any Big-12 school, with an offense to match.

I said it a few years ago with respect to OSU and michigan, I stand by it now. If you don't win your conf title you shouldn't be in the national title game.

So I go with UF and Texas Tech.

also, if UF beats #1 alabama, and wins the title, that will be something Texas didn't do. They lost to a non-#1 team while #1 and didn't win their title.

No doubt, UF will jump them no matter what happens if they win out IMO.

I generally agree that you shouldn't be in the national championship if you don't win your conference championship (with exceptions for those rare circumstances where there are only average conference champs in every major conference and 2 great teams that lost out), but you absolutely should not have a conference rematch in the national championship when there's another equally good team out there. In the situation you described, sorry Texas but it's got to be TT-UF.

Good luck to Texas Tech beating Oklahoma in Norman this weekend. I consider it unlikely. But if they do win this game and the Big 12 CG, then they will be playing the winner of the Alabams/Florida game for the MNC.

For Texas, it will just be too bad. The voters in the polls will not allow a rematch game from within the division. Don't see it happening.

That's what everybody said about TT beating Texas.  We know how that turned out.  Course OU's 60-2 home record is kinda insane for any team.  Wish Tech had that, we'd sell out every home game.

I've always been a fan of that Mike Leach aerial attack, and for now Texas Tech is my 3rd favorite team behind GT and UCLA. Plus, I love to see the "traditional powers" get knocked down a peg by the upstart.

Florida plays Citadel this week.  Will not impress anyone even it is 100-3, which it might be knowing that P.O.S. Urban Meyer.

Then they play FSU in Tally.  I think they have a tight game there and lose ground in the standings.

Then they have a chance at redemption playing Nick Satan in Atlanta.  They beat Bama handily, but still get locked out of the championship game by virtue of playing a cupcake Citadel, and then having a close call with a 7-5 FSU team.

Well, I don't think FSU and UF will be that close, but even if it was...You're dreaming Yukon...No way we see a T Tech - Texas matchup.  If UF wins out and doesn't go, it won't be Texas that takes their place.

If that happens it WILL BE Texas Tech -Florida in Championship game PERIOD! Florida will soar past Texas in all polls if they don't lose again. At that point this would be the best 2 teams playing for it, but that ain't going to happen. You see OU is going to drop Tech this saturday I promise. The question will then become which BIG 12 school is ranked the highest after saturday I assume will go to the Big 12 championship game. If they win that game they will play Bama - Florida winner.
